I understand that you are having some issues connecting to your Wi-Fi network when you are near the router, but if you move away from the router, you are then able to connect. I use Wi-Fi all the time on my MacBook Pro so I can understand the concern. I will be happy to provide some information for you.
To start, let's have you boot the MacBook Pro into safe mode and then try to connect to your Wi-Fi network.
Try safe mode if your Mac doesn‘t finish starting up
Starting up in safe mode
Follow these steps to start up into safe mode.- Start or restart your Mac.
- Immediately after you hear the startup sound, press and hold the Shift key.
- Release the Shift key when you see the Apple logo appear on the screen.
After the Apple logo appears, it might take longer than usual to reach the login screen or your desktop. This is because your Mac performs a directory check of your startup disk as part of safe mode.
To leave safe mode, restart your computer without pressing any keys during startup.
If you are still experiencing issues connecting to your Wi-Fi network after booting into safe mode, please restart the MacBook Pro and then try to connect to it from a test user account.

If you are still experiencing issues, please use the Wi-Fi Diagnostics and report back with the results.
