As you are already aware applications like ProTools and Photoshop can be CPU & memory intensive, especially during processing. Any computer you choose should include sufficient CPU power and memory to support such applications. In addition, files produced by those types of applications can be fairly large and will need to be stored. The newer Mac laptop come with SSD drives with limited storage capacity. It's improving but SSD drives are still very expensive vs. "spinning-disc" drives. That would mean you should also shop for a sizable external drive for storage.

I would recommend the following things to consider:

    • Get a MacBook Pro with the largest screen.
    • You may also want to get a second external monitor.
    • Order the laptop from the online Apple Store. That way you can get it pre-configured with the most memory and CPU power vs. what may be available at the brick-and-mortar Apple Store near you.
    • The laptop you order should have the following:
      • 15" display
      • 2.8 GHz Intel Quad-Core i7 Processor
      • 1 TB PCIe-based Flash Storage or get the 512 GB flash storage option and get an external Thunderbolt 2 hard drive.
