My IPhone is useless off the charger!!!

Ever since i upgraded my IOS to 9.3.4 my phone has had serious issues listed in numerous threads to include massive battery drain, random shutdowns saying the battery is drained when its saying i have over 90% battery, then it won't restart until its plugged in. As soon as it restarts my battery says its at over 90%. This is ridiculous! I have no use for a phone that i cant use unless its plugged in! Yesterday i took it off the charger and ran to the store, i received a text message and my phone died while typing a response. I have done everything that has been covered in multiple threads trying to resolve this issue minus completely wiping my phone with zero success. I have since upgraded to IOS 10 hoping that would fix the problem, but it has not.

Hi Xsgtsteveo,

Thanks for posting your question in the Apple Support Community! I understand you're having trouble with your iPhone not working unless it's plugged in to charge. I rely solely on my iPhone so I can understand the importance of having a phone that you can use without needing to keep it plugged in. I'm happy to offer some suggestions here.

The first thing that I recommend to do is check on what might be using up your battery power by going to Settings > Battery. You can also take a look at the information in these articles for tips on optimizing your battery life:

I also recommend to try calibrating your battery. To do this you'll want to follow these steps:

  1. Fully charge your battery.
  2. Unplug your iPhone an use the battery until it drains completely.
  3. Plug back in to charge fully. Leave it plugged in to charge until it is finished fully charging and test.

The last step that I recommend to try, since you mentioned that you haven't yet, is to backup and then restore your iPhone. This will help rule out any software or third party app issues. You'd want restore it, then set it up as a new device to test it out before restoring your backup. You can find all of the information you'll need to do this below.

Use iTunes on your Mac or PC to restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to factory settings

Take care.
