Q: I have a constant beach balling issue that I haven't been able to find a solution to.

I have constant beach balling. I get it when I open a new app, when I go to a new page on Safari, when I press the Page down key, and when I do many other things.

First, YES, I have done the following to try to fix it:

Ran EtreCheck: normal

Ran TechTool: no issues

Ran Atomic (TechTool's RAM checker): no issues

Ran Apple Hardware Test: no issues

Changed to a new user: no change

Looked for something odd in Activity Monitor: nothing found

Checked for malware: none

MacBook Pro, OS X El Capitan (10.11)

What does this mean "Ran EtreCheck: normal"? Post the results here.

What is your definition of "odd" "Looked for something odd in Activity Monitor: nothing found"?

How did you do this "Checked for malware: none"?

You should uninstall all apps that claim to clean, protect, boost performance, manage, etc. your computer.

Try rebooting. It's been 9 days since a boot.

8 processes killed due to insufficient RAM <

You have too many background processes going on. You don't need them all. Just wasting processes that the System can use to run apps that you are actually using at the moment.

I just opened Activity Monitor, and these are the ones running. As I calculate it, about 30% of CPU. I usually only run a couple of apps at a time. I have 8Gb of RAM, so there should be plenty.

I'm sorry but in reality you need to trim your apps loading and running a bit. You REALLY don't need most of them. Unless you know how to launch and kill processes as you need them. Take advise from the others here who are trying to help you. There are many MANY references on this Apple site and Google Sensei [google search] can help also.

    Hope this helps.

In this case (or at least the point in time you ran Etrecheck), CPU% isn't the issue. You are using 1.05 GB of swap. Swap is when your processes are using more memory than you have installed. It then has to write memory to disk which is very slow.

You can look at the Memory tab to see what is using most of your RAM, but that may not be evident as to what is causing the issues.

The best way to resolve issues like yours is to remove all of the crapware and see how it runs. If it runs better, then you've solved the problem. If it doesn't run better, then you will have to look elsewhere. As jwsapp pointed out, you are trying to run more programs than your RAM is capable of supporting. All of the "maintenance" tools are doing you no good, but they are still using RAM.

I got rid of those with the exception of googletalkbrowserplugin, which I need. I also cleaned out many "leftovers" no longer needed. No discernible change.
