Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. It's my understanding your no longer receiving notifications on your iMac. Notifications keep me updated with all my daily events, I surely understand how this can impact everyday use. I am happy to help.
First, I recommend confirming your Notifications Preferences. Use the link below for assistance.
OS X El Capitan: Notifications preferencesIf the preferences are correct, test the issue in safe mode. This allows the Mac to run certain checks, delete cache, and prevent some Startup and Login Items. Follow the steps below to startup in safe mode.
- Start or restart your Mac.
- Immediately after you hear the startup sound, press and hold the Shift key.
- Release the Shift key when you see the Apple logo appear on the screen.
After the Apple logo appears, it might take longer than usual to reach the login screen or your desktop. This is because your Mac performs a directory check of your startup disk as part of safe mode.
To leave safe mode, restart your computer without pressing any keys during startup.
Try safe mode if your Mac doesn't finish starting up
If the issue doesn't occur in safe mode and returns when you restart normally, try disabling login items. Use the link below if additional assistance
OS X El Capitan: If you think you have incompatible login items
Have a wonderful day!
