Thank you for using the Apple Support Communities. Based on your post, I understand that your iPhone 6 Plus keyboard becomes unresponsive when typing a message in Mail or Messages. I send e-mail and other types of messages frequently throughout my day, so I know it's important to make sure the keyboard is working as expected. I'd be happy to help!
I've got some troubleshooting I can recommend. Before going through them, please create a backup of your iPhone, following the instructions here: How to back up your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
Once your backup is finished, take the following steps, in order. Test your keyboard's performance after each step, stopping when the issue is resolved.- Quit and relaunch any open apps, particularly those that use the keyboard, using this article: Force an app to close on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
- Restart your iPhone, as described here: Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
- Reset the settings on your iPhone under Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings. You will not lose any personal data (like contacts, pictures, or Calendar events), however customizable settings (like your wallpaper and display brightness, alert sounds and ringtones, and Date & Time settings) will be converted back to factory defaults. This will also remove any saved Wi-Fi networks and passwords, and any previously used VPN or APN settings.
- Restore your iPhone to its factory settings, as detailed here: Use iTunes on your Mac or PC to restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch to factory settings
After the restore is complete, set your iPhone up as a new device (meaning without your backup, at least temporarily). You can sign into iCloud, iMessage, FaceTime, and the iTunes and App Store with your Apple ID. Then, test your keyboard.
If your keyboard functions after setting your iPhone up as a new device, you can then restore your backup, following the instructions here: Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch from a backup
