Sep 18, 2016 3:13 PM in response to Flipsonicby Rich839,Hi, Flipsonic,
iMovie 9 and El Capitan are not entirely compatible. If you got Photos to work with it you would probably would experience numerous problems getting iM9 to operate correctly, like, for instance, photos showing as black frames. Your best solution would be to upgrade to current version of iMovie (10.1.2). iMovie 10.1.2 has a different structure and interface than iM9, so there will be a bit of a learning curve.
If you decide to go that route, visit the Apple online App Store and see if you can get iM10 there for free. Sign in with your Apple I.D. and password and look under purchases. If you acquired iM9 when you bought your computer it should be listed there with an indication that an update is available for free. You would have to use the same Apple I.D. you used when you bought your computer. If a free upgrade is not available, you would need to buy iMovie 10.1.2 for $14.99. Still a pretty good deal.
Best,
Rich

Sep 18, 2016 3:48 PM in response to Rich839by Flipsonic,Thanks Rich. iMovie came with my iMac when I purchased it back in 2009. I don't even remember if I had an Apple ID back then. When I sign in with my current ID, I don't find it in my Purchases. I know it's only $15 but why pay for it if i don't have to. Is there a way around this? Should I just contact Apple Support? I want to keep iMovie 9 since I'm able to create movies with 4K clips. Exported to 1080p of course. Now I just want to create movies with pics but can't with 9. Weird that I can edit 4K clips with 9 but can't add pics. I purchased 10 before but didn't work well with 4K clips. So I uninstalled it and received a refund. I don't want to have to go through that again if I don't have to. Anyway, I wish I can add pics with what I got. Thanks again.

Sep 19, 2016 6:15 AM in response to Flipsonicby GeeD,Ah. You must have iMovie '09 (version 8) that came with iLife 2009. The free update is only available from iMovie '11 (version 9) that came with iLife 2011. Very confusing I know.
