Oct 2, 2016 11:53 AM in response to turingtest2by Lizziejane81,Thanks so much for messaging back! I am truly and genuinely in trouble. I've been doing research on this all night and cannot get anything to work. I've tried the method in your link, but my computer just stops in the middle of the transfer of files. I don't know if its corrupted files or what. I've tried moving a few songs at a time and got some to work, but then it stops again. I've tried 3rd party software, but they don't even see the files. I really need to talk to you and have you remote in to my computer to see what I'm seeing. Please.

Oct 2, 2016 12:18 PM in response to Lizziejane81by turingtest2,Use the method in Backup your iTunes for Windows library with SyncToy to copy off the files that can be copied. Unlike Windows Explorer it will carry on if there is a file it cannot read. Using multiple passes may get files that were skipped previously without wasting time on files that have already copied. You can also rest the device and then try again. Some files may copy when the drive is warmed up, some when it is cold. When you get to the point that no more files will copy successfully after a number of tries see Corrupt iPod Classic.

Oct 2, 2016 12:17 PM in response to turingtest2by Lizziejane81,Ok. I will try that. But what about saving the album art and playlist data. Is this possible?
-
Oct 2, 2016 12:27 PM in response to Lizziejane81by turingtest2,Album art is either embedded and will come with the files you recover or can be redownloaded. If the database on the iPod is readable then there are scripts mentioned in the Recover media from an iPod tip that can extract playlists, ratings and play counts.

Oct 2, 2016 1:14 PM in response to turingtest2by Lizziejane81,Im trying the sync toy, but it keeps getting hung up also. Is there a setting that I need to change?

Oct 2, 2016 1:20 PM in response to Lizziejane81by turingtest2,Hmm, you can try letting the device rest for a while, then try again. Preview first so you can monitor progress.
Take a look at Corrupt iPod Classic and post back your stats. It might be a lost cause.

Oct 2, 2016 3:02 PM in response to turingtest2by Lizziejane81,I've tried two other 3rd party file transfer programs and they all get hung up on the same corrupt files and makes the computer freeze up every time. Should I try doing this on my IMac?

Oct 2, 2016 3:36 PM in response to Lizziejane81by turingtest2,I doubt it will help. You're probably just hitting a badly damaged section of the drive that cannot be read. What are the HDD stats?

Oct 2, 2016 3:57 PM in response to Lizziejane81by turingtest2,I suspect I've covered all the tools and techniques that I have at my disposal at one link or another. Your HDD stats would give a hint as to whether or not it is really too late to worry about trying to rescue the data. I'm not set up for doing support via remote control.
