When updating to iOS 10, I was prompted to delete two apps to make room for the update, which would then be reinstalled after the update was finished.
This did not happen. Both apps were stuck on my homescreen on Waiting, not able to delete or reinstall.
I fixed one by deleting and syncing it back through iTunes. The other one still won't budge.
Things I have tried:
-deleting it from the homescreen: clicking on the X doesn't do anything.
-soft reset
-hard reset
-Settings > General > Usage: the app doesn't show up here.
-signing out of my apple ID in Settings > iTunes & App Store, hard reset. App is still there.
-Deleting and syncing the app back in iTunes--iTunes thinks the app is installed even though it is not; syncing does nothing. The app similarly can't be deleted in the simulated homescreen in iTunes--the X doesn't show up or doesn't work.
-Going to the App Store on the device and installing it. It's stuck on the Stop button, with no progress indicated in the circle. Clicking on the Stop button greys it out. Scrolling away returns it to a normal, blue color. Nothing changes.
-Yes, I have enough space on the device for this app.
I'm trying to reinstall the app, for the record. But if I'm able to delete it, then I'm certain I'll be able to reinstall it. I've done everything short of wiping the device, which I'd prefer not to do since I was able to solve this problem for one other app.
