I just updated my Apple Watch to 3.0, and the Contacts app is gone. It shows on my iPhone, but not in the little icons on the Watch, and Siri on the Watch says I do not have a Contacts app. The Messages on my watch are coming through, but as phone numbers instead of names. I've tried a hard reset of the Watch with no luck. Any ideas?

This issue is addressed with the update that was released 12/12/2016.
Under watchOS 3.1.1, there is still no separate Contacts app or Friends app on Apple Watch.
I've had the latest software on my Apple Watch series 2 (3.1) since I purchased it. The answer to issues with Apple products can't always be a software update, there has to be other trouble shooting to get rid of this bug?
You're right, software updates aren't always the fix but in this case this issue is specifically addressed with watchOS update 3.1.1. If you update and you still have the issue then come back and let us know.
Well that's funny you're saying that there's a 3.1.1, my watch isn't telling me that there's an update. I'm in the Watch app on my phone, and it's saying that the software is up to date?!

Nothing seems to happen when I choose Reset Sync Data. Should I get any feedback from the iPhone when I tap on it? I waited 5 minutes and checked the phone and still have phone numbers rather than contact names in my messages app on the watch.
If you rebooted the Watch after waiting 5 minutes and the contacts still aren't there, you're going to have to wipe the Watch and start over. I had done that and it works perfectly now.

That's right nothing appears to happen. It's a background process. I'd recommend waiting for the 3.1.1 update to be available again. I was able to get it the first day without any problem but Apple pulled it after some reports of issues. It should be available again soon. Since receiving the update i haven't seen the issue at all.
I actually think the problem STARTED when I updated to 3.1.1 earlier this week. I am happy to report when I checked messages on my watch a few hours after I did the Reset Sync Data, my contact names were back. Thanks for your help gadgetvirtuoso.
Hi I just got my Apple Watch a few days ago. I saw this thread and wondered where contacts app was as well. But after messing with the Watch seems to be now integrated into the Phone app. There is a button for contacts there and you can text or call from there.

The best thing to do is reset the sync data as said before in this post. It's really so far the best thing that works, until they re release the next version of Watch OS.
