Contacts app missing after Apple Watch 3.0 update

I just updated my Apple Watch to 3.0, and the Contacts app is gone. It shows on my iPhone, but not in the little icons on the Watch, and Siri on the Watch says I do not have a Contacts app. The Messages on my watch are coming through, but as phone numbers instead of names. I've tried a hard reset of the Watch with no luck. Any ideas?

As I hoped to explain in my previous replies:

Under watchOS 3.x, the Friends feature (which was available under prior versions) is no longer included and there is no direct replacement for it. When placing calls or sending new messages, contacts can instead be selected via the Phone and Messages apps or by using Siri:

I took my phone (6s Plus) and brand new Nike edition to the Genius Bar and they wanted to send the watch off to Apple. I took it back and today received a new replacement. Same exact issue with this one.

No contacts I also don't have any connection/communication from the watch to my phone on the Activity app. Meaning all those steps I've been taking were for nothing! 😠😢😁

I know it shouldn't matter but could it be something with the 6s? Only other person I know personal with this issue also has a 6s. There are 5 additional people here in my office with Apple Watches, none of them have had this issue ever and all non 6s model phones.... I know it's a long stretch but what are the odds?

What I did was:

on the iPhone, went to Settings, then Contacts, then Accounts,

then go to iCloud if your syncing Contacts to iCloud

or choose where you sync your Contacts.

tick it off,

it will ask if you want to Delete the Contacts from your iPhone, I chose yes.

Then tick it on.

it will re sync your Contacts to your iPhone

and eventually to your Apple Watch.

This worked for me but please do at your own risk.

I understand that the Friends feature is gone. My issue is that my Watch doesn't have any of my Contacts from my iPhone on it. If I try to send a message or make a call, using Siri or the Phone or Messages apps, the Watch tells me I have no Contacts. Text messages are showing up with phone numbers only, not with names the way they used to. How can I get my Contacts from the phone on to my Watch?

Hello Jonathan,

This has happened to me as well and I had restarted the Watch and it fixed it; it would then randomly erase everything. I had a senior tech give me her work email and phone after I wiped the Watch and started as a new watch (not from back up). Anyway, that worked as of a December 3 2016, 2 weeks ago. With that said, this morning I woke up to find my contacts missing again in my Apple Watch. So I found this that you stated to do, reset sync settings, and this hasn't worked (after letting sit for a little while thinking they would sync). I also restarted the Watch and my iPhone 6s which the Watch is connected to. Please help!! I don't understand this and I don't want to keep wiping the Watch out.

Thanks in advance, hope to hear back from you soon!

Regards,

Chad
