That video is probably fake or doctored. Many have sensed the warming of the iphone 7 a bit when charging, but far below temperature of ignition.

In addition to leaving individual feedback for Apple, we should try to compare expieriences here to try to isolate the precise factors that cause it to heat. After all it is in our best interest.

MY HEATING FACTORS

• My iPhone 7-128GB does NOT seem to heat when not charging.

• It also does not seem to heat when charging while using apps like Mail, iMessage, Phone, Pages, Word, etc.

• The heating seems to occur while charging, if I use a video app, particularly YouTube, whether viewing a video on the phone or mirroring to a TV.

• It cools down while charging when I close the video app and put the iPhone to sleep for a few minutes.

Just got my phone today and it heated up during setup and downloading back up from iCloud while plugged into my desk top. I had the same problem with my old 5c when I toke it to the apple store I was told it had a virus, we erased all content and downloaded back up from iCloud, and hasn't heated up since. I hope these new phone aren't preloaded with a virus! I don't see how this issue is marked solved?

I've been having similar issues to when restoring from the 6 backup. It gets to be uncomfortably warm. When idly charging without any applications opened in the background, the back surface of the iPhone 7 gets to be warm. My previous iPhones did not do this. Even with the current iPhone 6, when I did a restore to replicate the issue, my iPhone 6 is still cool. It got a little warm, slightly less warm compared to the iPhone 7 when it's charging idly. The CSR at Verizon Wireless provided me a replacement and the same issue occurred. When it was charging at the store for 5 minutes, the surface is cool. Not sure if it's because there was nothing on the phone and if the battery was already at 95% when I started charging it. Both are running on the same iOs. I ran one sleep app all night and my iPhone 6 was drained by 23%, while the iPhone 7 was drained by 31%. Apple's iPhone announcement indicated longer battery life, but from my current situation, it doesn't appear so, but I'll give it a couple of days to get settled with whatever else running in the background and will attempt to wipe it out clean and start fresh rather than from a backup to see if it helps just in case some application files are not compatible with the new iPhone/iOs. Maybe you folks can give it a shot too. If all else fails, return the phone. It's too new to be not be functioning as it should. A few of my friends restored from backups too and had no complaints so far. It could be we run different apps also. Good luck!

I got my new iPhone 7 tonight and By the time I'd finished setting it up my battery was at 45% so plugged it in to charge. A few hours later I picked it up and it was roasting to the extent I can't use it. My screen displays the following message "Temperature, iPhone needs to cool down before you can use it." and only allows Emergency calls.

I've had previous iPhones and never encountered this problem. What's the point in having a phone you can't use until it cools down? Apple any suggestions to rectify this issue?
