Q: Problems with Backup from iPhone 5 to iPhone4

Hi all,

I have the following problem:

Due to some iPhone swapping within the family I ended up with the following situation:

iPhone 4 (IOS 7, latest release) old phone of my son, should go to my wife

iPhone 5 (iOS 10, latest release) old phone of my wife, should go to my son

Backups of both on iTunes.

Restoring the iPhone 5 from the iPhone 4 Backup seems to work.

However the the other way round seems not possible. What I already found, that a "downgrade" to an older OS is not possible, if it comes to restoring.

Is there any way to get around this problem, or to restore some of the apps? Important are basically the Contact.

Hi
The problem is backup needs to be the same ios on both iphones
You cannot backup an iphone running ios 7 to one running ios 9
They all have to run the same ios

You cannot downgrade iOS, and you cannot restore a backup taken from one version of iOS and restore it to a device running an older version of iOS.

If the aim is swap devices then the iPhone 4 user can get all of their content on the iPhone 5, but the current iPhone 5 would have to start from scratch when moving to the iPhone 4. If contacts can be synced into some application on your computer they can be read back from later that might work.

See whichever of these applies:
iTunes 12 for Mac: Sync contacts, calendars, and other info with iPod, iPhone, or iPad
iTunes 12 for Windows: Sync contacts, calendars, and other info with iPod, iPhone, or iPad
