Sep 19, 2016 5:15 AM in response to laraqby PWALI,You could have slightly worn out ram sticks. Either replace them or get an upgrade. I had the same issue with my Mid-2011 iMac and it had 4gb of ram I upgraded it to 12gb and it works perfectly now.

Sep 19, 2016 5:25 AM in response to laraqby JimmyCMPIT,the slowness is because of the Anti-Virus, and possible the Hard Drive going bad (RAM "Sticks" don't "wear out" BTW, RAM has no moving parts). The first course of action should be to to remove any mac Anti-Virus product, and all 3rd party OS utility (mac keeper, clean my mac, little snitch, etc) as the developer recommends on their website(s) as drag and drop to the trash is insufficient to remove the garbage these products install that will tank up the OS.
Do not expect any performance gains on your Mac until the AV is removed.
The forums are well documented with users who have mangled operability with OS by installing an Mac AV. The best protection at this time is to keep your mac up-to-date with OS and security updates and to practice safe browsing habits.
