Q: too long to wake up, keyboard connection lost, menu bar is freezing

Hello there,

Hope you can help me guys with the strange problem going on with my imac and yosemite.

After long sleep(about 15 hours) my imac is very hard to wake up I can see grey screen with white progress bar.

When my imac is finally woke up my wireless keyboard is not connected i'm not able to type my password and I had to reboot imac with the button on the back wall.

At one point i connected usb keyboard so i could log in but menu bar gets frozen and spinning wheel appears when i try to get bluetooth settings and again i had to reboot it.

Looks like there is a problem with bluetooth but i'm not sure.

Thanks in advance for any help!

    1. Reset the SMC, as per >  Reset the System Management Controller (SMC) on your Mac - Apple Support and then test it to see if the problem reoccurs.

    2. If your running the Screen Saver for a time before Auto Sleep..?

Disable the Screen Saver, Auto Sleep or both for a time and try manually sleeping the Mac from the Apple Dropdown Menu.

    3. To check your Bluetooth settings, go to: Apple > System Preferences > Bluetooth > click Advanced and make sure that "Allow Bluetooth devices to wake this computer" and the other boxes are checked.

    Thanks for reply!

    I'll try resetting SMC tonight.

For the bluetooth  "Allow Bluetooth devices to wake this computer" is on and I always put it to sleep manually with the shortcut on my keyboard. Actually it's waking up by pressing some key on the keyboard and after that keyboard just stops working.  At the same track pad is working though.

    You're welcome!

If you have a bunch of USB, FireWire and/or Mini DisplayPort/Thunderbolt devices like I do..?

Then it is a good idea to un-mount and disconnect them, prior to reseting the SMC. Then reconnect them back up to the iMac after doing the SMC reset.

Hmmm.... sounds like either the keyboard batteries are low or some other connected device is interfering with the keyboards connection after wake...? At this point we can only hope that it is a power management problem, which will also clear-up with the SMC reset.

The batteries are good actually and I have 2 other devices connected one of them through USB. And I must say that this issue happens only after deep sleep i think it's called hibernate or something like this(I can see grey screen with white progress bar at startup) I don't know if I can rid of this mode at all I wish I could. When I wake it up in 30 minutes or even couple of hours it works as it should.
