Music App crashes when opening playlist "My Top 25"

Hi,

when I open the Music App, select "Playlists" and choose "My Top 25", the Music App ends immediately. This happens since I have updated my iPhone 6s to iOS 10. On my Apple TV 32GB, the playlist is working fine. Also my MacBook Pro does open and play this playlist.

What can I do to make my iPhone play this playlist again?

Thanks for any help!

i think i found the solution. i have a lot of mp3 files located on my NAS (Apple time capsule) added to my iTunes library. Without the option enabled to copy files to the local macbook iTunes directory. When i use a smart playlist i iTunes that is replicated to my iPhone the music app will crash. When i try a new playlist with numbers that are actually on my laptop there is no problem. Maybe Apple can build in an auto local download option for network located music files. Hope apple can come with a solution. i think smart playlist are the best but this is a glitch in the use of it.

I was on the chat to AppleCare yesterday, i was eventually handed over to an advisor and we worked on it for hours.

Eventually we found the playlist would work normally on my phone if we unchecked the the "Live Updating" in the setting for the smart playlists.

We don't know why this worked, as i have other smart playlists and they work perfectly fine with the "Live Updating" box checked.

We ended up collecting all my phone's data and sent it away to the engineers so they can fix the issue. He will be in contact with me when the engineers get back to him. I'll try to remember to post back here the updates i get if they are relevant.

So for now, just unchecked the "Live Updating" box on the settings for your smart playlist on iTunes on your computer.

If you want to 'update' the songs in the playlist, for now I'd suggest:
1- open the settings on the playlist, re-check the "Live Updating" Box

2- click the "OK" button

3- re-open the settings on the playlist, uncheck the "Live Updating" Box

4- then sync phone.

I hope this works for all of you, but it should be fixed in the next few updates.

Hi,

I had to restore the iPhone to factory defaults because of another issue.

So I did:

1. Backup of all data

2. Restore to factory defaults

3. Restored all data from the backup

Then I could use the playlist My Top 25 again. I had to load all songs from Apple Music again, no songs were local on the iPhone anymore.

So, finally, this is solved for me :-)

I too am having the same issue. Removing live update worked but that's just a work around. Quick question for everyone. How many rules do you have in your smart list? I found another forum post that mentions list with more then 100 rules are crashing g. Just curious. Also what version iOS are you running? I'm on 10.1.1. As for how many rules I have I don't know as I haven't added them up yet.

Here is the other forum post: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/7677031?start=0&tstart=0

Hi,

this did not work for me. When disabling the "Live Updating", the Music App on the iPhone 6S did not crash anymore. But the list was empty 😠.

I tried one thing: Creating a new intelligent playlist "My top 26", I applied the very same setting as for the crashing one, but 26 titles instead of 25. Unfortunately the same behavior. Music App is still crashing.

Thank you that's precisely what caused my Music app to crash. Strange thing is that it only happened with the iOS 10.0.2 and never happened before previously. Disabling he Live Update option solved it for me, although it did took me a while and it's quite tedious to do it one by one.

Please help spread the words if this helped you. I'm sure there are a lot more people having the same issue and hoping to find an answer.

I'm yet to here back from Apple after the chat I had with them (mentioned above), but they took a copy of my phone's data to work out what how to fix the problem. I'm confident it'll be fixed in an upcoming update.

If this doesn't work for anyone I suggest that you contact AppleCare through the chat feature, and maybe your problem might be different.
