ios 10 and car usb

I just updated to ios 10. Now when i plug my phone into my car's usb port, it still connects the phone to the car and can be controlled by the car, but it only plays music through the phone speaker instead of the car speakers. Is there a fix for this?

The last 2 posts do not have anything to do with the initial problem posted by lairddan and should be posted in another thread.

@lairddan: The last update 10.0.2 resolved the problem 🙂 (iPhone 6, Renault Kadjar)

I took my 2016 Chevy Cruz into the dealership for some other work and told them about my iphone 5c no longer being recognized by the stereo/autoplay function. It came back working and I noticed on the details in the bill (still under warranty) that they had loaded a software/firmware update to the stereo system. It's a pain to have to take it to a dealership for that, but I tried all of the other suggestions in these forums, and the dealer stereo update was the only thing that worked.

Same issue here - I have a 2014 Subaru BRZ and an Iphone 6s. I've done all of the obvious troubleshooting, restarting, ect. As the OP points out, it's Apples fault because the only variable that changed was the OS. It is pathetic that it is 2017 and you can't even get basic functionality to remain consistent on a $900+ phone. Not to mention BT is messed up as well - I have to delete device and reinstall pretty much every time I drive my car. Make some effort to engineer your software correctly - this is just lazy and pathetic. Last Apple product I'll ever buy.

Hey lairddan,

If I understand correctly, you updated to iOS 10 and you are not able to play music over your car speakers using USB Playback.
I would recommend you read this article, it may be able to help troubleshoot the issue.

If you're using USB Playback

  1. Restart your iOS device and your car.
  2. Connect your iOS device to a different stereo USB port (if you have one).
  3. Try a different USB cable.
  4. Update your iOS device.
  5. Install any firmware updates for your car stereo.
  6. Try playing audio from a different app. If you can't play audio from a specific third-party app, contact the app developer for help. If you can't play audio from an Apple app, contact Apple Support.

I have the same issue, but your response doesn't help at all:

1. Restarting my car and iphone isn't helpful. (Have to "reboot" my car every time I use it.) !

2.-3. Before the update, the cable worked well. I did update my iOS, not my cable !

4. I updated to iOS10, thats where the problem comes from !

5. Why updating a working car, because I updated my smartphone ? (Not every car owner can't update his car at home ...)

6. I repeat: before the update, everything worked fine ! (iTunes, Spotify, ... are having the same symthoms.)

The problem is related to the update, that's a fact.

I have usb playback issues in Ford Focus 2013 with iPhone 6 Plus. When I connect iPhone to car usb firstly no music sound is played, but car detects iPhone. When I plug out and plug in iPhone lightning cable the sound comes. When someone calls and when I use Siri, the music playback again stops and requires plug out and plugin the cable.

Same problem with my Nissan Murano (2012). Worked fine before update with the iPod feature of the car, now it is recognizing the phone, but not any music/podcasts (I tried multiple apps that always worked before). Phone is playing music (seconds count down), but no sound through the phone or the car speakers. Tested on iPhone 5 and iPhone 6S.

Same issue on 2014 Frontier. Stereo recognizes that phone is attached to USB. Phone chimes at connection and begins charging. Stereo face displays track time that ticks along ... as the sound comes from the phone, not the stereo. All sequences of rebooting/unplugging/replugging have proven fruitless.

For bluetooth, the phone ring comes out of the phone, instead of the speakers as it used to, but the call functions correctly through the dashboard controls and stereo audio.

Something has gotten corrupted with the plain USB function with iOS 10.

Exactly the same problem here, all worked fine a couple of weeks ago, but since the update to 10.1 and subsequently to 10.1.1 I cannot play audio from my iPhone 7 Plus over the USB connection to my car (BMW). The telephone function works fine on the car speakers over blue tooth, but none of the audio from itunes or any of the others apps can be heard via the USB cable. The cable is working fine (have tried 3 different ones so far) and the have reboot both the idrive system on the car and the iphone multiple times. I'm sure this is an iOS bug and needs to be fix as soon as possible.
