Q: Unable to download offline music in iOS 10

I previously had no problem maintaining a large offline music collection in Apple Music on my iPhone 6; since getting a 7, though, and after having restored from a backup, when I try to begin syncing a large playlist of content, it seems to have worked for a few songs, but it errored out on one, which cancelled the operation.

Since then, I am unable to get any music to sync, no matter what I choose; it just spins the download circle indefinitely, but never seems to actually get started on anything; closing the app, rebooting the phone, and clearing the Downloads page within Apple Music all fail to address the issue.

Has anyone encountered this bug before, and/or known a workaround?

    Hello schatridge!

Thanks for reaching out to the Apple Support Communities! It sounds like you are having issues with downloading music for listening offline wth Apple Music. I know how important it is to be able to enjoy music offline as well. The first step you might want to try is signing out and back into Apple Music and then trying to download the music again. Then, try going to Settings> Music> Turn off iCloud Music Library, then turn it back on. Now this will remove the previously downloaded music so you'll need to redownload the music for offline play.

The next thing you might want to try is going to Settings on the iPhone and then to Reset. Once there, tap Reset all Settings. This will reset the iPhone settings, but not erase personal information such as photos, contacts, or music. It will, however, remove Wi-Fi and VPN settings so be sure you have those settings and passwords ready for when the iPhone is started back up.

If that doesn't work, it would be a good idea to be sure there is not a software issue as the root cause of this for you.

    1. Check out this article for the steps for How to backup your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch
    2. Use this article for the steps to Use iTunes on your Mac or PC to restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod to factory settings.
    3. Once that is done, set the phone up as new and test the phone to see if the issue is still going on. Then, follow this article to Restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch from a backup

    Cheers!
