Sep 20, 2016 7:10 AM in response to Billy78GRby norm123,Hello Billy78GR,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities. It's my understanding you've been experiencing audio issues from the receiver and headphones after updating to iOS 10. I know it's extremely important to be able to hear others during calls. I am happy to help get this resolved with you.
First, I recommend restarting. This can resolve many unexpected behaviors. Follow the steps below to restart.- Press and hold the Sleep/Wake button until the red slider appears.
- Drag the slider to turn your device completely off.
- After the device turns off, press and hold the Sleep/Wake button again until you see the Apple logo.
Restart your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
Since you use headphones on a majority of your calls, I recommend checking and removing any dust or debris from the headset port. If the issue persists please review the additional steps in the link below.
If you can't hear a person a call or voicemail or if sound isn't clear on your iPhoneHave a great day!

Sep 20, 2016 11:38 AM in response to norm123by Billy78GR,★HelpfulHi norm123,
thank you very much for your reply.
Restarting is something that resolves the problem, but it is not a solution to restart your phone 5,10 or 20 times a day.
I think that dust is not a problem because this started immediately after update in ios10. Besides this is happening in my wife's iPhone 5s (she is not using EarPods or headphones) just after iOS 10 update. I think it is bug.
I am waiting other solutions.

Sep 20, 2016 12:31 PM in response to norm123by KristianO33,I have iPhone 6 128GB with iOS 10. I have the «low sound during calls» problem, and it will not go away. The sound is very low from the ear speaker. I went to the local certified apple reseller, and they verified the problem and suggested me to do a restore from iTunes. I have done that, the problem still persist. I have also tried resetting the settings and the «on/off button + home button» restart with no success.
I have also cleaned the ear speaker with a tiny brush, no dirt is blocking the sound from the speaker.
The phone has been working perfectly until after iOS 10 update.

Sep 21, 2016 2:03 AM in response to JovonaP.by dimak,I have the same problem. Some additional details are that the sound recovered after a while without restart and that it is not a result of the first use of Earpodes (I checked).

Sep 21, 2016 7:29 AM in response to JovonaP.by dimak,★HelpfulThe problem occurs when the earpods are connected, but it happens sometimes. I make or receive several calls without problem and then suddenly the problem occurs.
At the time of problem existence I proceed to the following steps:
1. iphone without connected earpods
2. No sound during call
3. Press of speakerphone (speakerphone on) and the sound is recovered
4. Press of speakerphone (speakerphone off) and the sound is ok
5. Connect the earpods and there is no sound at earpods
6. Disconnect the earpods and the sound problem still exists.
7. Press of speakerphone (speakerphone on) and the sound is recovered.

Sep 21, 2016 9:27 AM in response to dimakby Billy78GR,Hi dimak,
Your description is correct, something like that is happening to me.
But it happens more often.
I think that this happens after the first use my EarPods.

Sep 21, 2016 12:42 PM in response to Billy78GRby KristianO33,I fixed my problem with a box of compressed air. I blow away the dirt in the microscopic holes in the speaker cover. After that the sound was distorted. After some use, the distorted sound went away and everything was back to normal.

Sep 21, 2016 12:43 PM in response to Billy78GRby dimak,Hi Billy78GR,
I agree that it happens often.
I have checked again,
1. I made a test call with connected EarPods and the sound is ok
2. After 15min I made again a test call and the problem occurs. I mention that this happens without any other activity on iPhone (email, Internet, apps), without any other button press.
3. I test to disconnect the EarPods and connect again, I test with an other pair of EarPods, without lack.
I am not sure but I think that the sound is recovered after several incomin calls

Sep 26, 2016 12:22 PM in response to Billy78GRby hsteenwijk,Wow, am I glad to see this topic! I experience the exact same problem since the update to iOS 10. I use the iPods almost always when making phone calls, and never had a problem. Now it’s exactly how you describe it. This surely is a bug. And quite an annoying one.
When it happens, all sound is gone (e.g., Music, YouTube), and the only way to fix it is to perform a restart, sometimes even twice.

Sep 28, 2016 8:41 AM in response to norm123by tsalamas,Hello norm123,
I am experiencing the exact same problem since updating to iOS 10 and I have to do a restart several times a day.
I have checked my EarPods and used a second pair, they are working perfectly. The problem is with the device and the installment of iOS 10.
Any ideas how to resolve the problem??
Thank you.
