Q: iOS 10 no sound from ear speaker or EarPods

After update in iOS 10 (in iPhone 6s and iPhone 5s) i have this problem during making or receiving calls. Most of the times there is no sound from ear speaker or EarPods and i have to press the speakerphone during calls to listen. To recover this i have to shut down my iPhone and open it again. This seems to happen after i use one time the EarPods.

Consider that i use EarPods in 90% of my calls and iOS 9 i had no problem at all.

iPhone 6s, iOS 10

Same as you Billy 10.0.2 has not solved the problem and I refuse to keep resetting the phone every 15-20mins! I use my phone headphones for all conference call - this is a real pain!!

same problem on my 6s, iOS 10.0.2 did not fix it. And also person whom I call does not hear me. And I have to restart the phone to make it all work again. I use earpods to make calls.

Hi everyone. Same problem here. Since the update, I cant keep a normal conversation over the phone. I literally can´t hear on the earpiece. I called Apple, made the restart... the problem is still there. I even tried making a voice note, and then heard it over the earpiece... same issue.

Apple Support even told me that is a hardware issue, and I should take it to a repair service. But I keep finding people with the same problem after de ios 10 update! So there´s a big chance this is a software issue.

I live in Argentina, so any hardware fix isn´t official, and extremely expensive.

It’s definitely a software issue. I downgraded to 9.3.5, and everything was fine. Upgraded again, and the problem was back. So...

Just give Apple your feedback, they need to fix it. Not a repair shop.

I Am having the exact issue and then some. Notifications are messed up as well. I am getting notifications from 4 days ago just popping up now.

I Recorded a 10 minute video last night. This morning I went to watch it and it has no sound!  The video has no sound at all because I copied it to my computer and played it. It was completely SILENT!

The sound issue is really bad. I listen to music - no sound, play a video - no sound, make a phone call - no sound. Rather than restarting the phone, I discovered by going into the sound settings and adjusting the sound volume, the sound is magically restored, at least for a little while.

BYnow Apple KNOWS this is a bug. Supplying useless "tips" to reboot the phone, blow compressed air into the headphone jack or restore your phone is just s huge waste of time.  And by the way I have Bluetooth. Disabled.

THis is an OS bug - plain and simple.  Put out a fix already, or make it easy for me to go back to iOS 9, when life was simpler.

who tests these releases anyway?  I find it hard to believe that this bug never cropped up before the official release.

Same issue here... I have my headphones (bose through headphone jack 6S) after a few days, there is no audio through the headphones nor can I hear the person on the other end. I have to reboot my phone.

Rebooting and resetting the phone shouldn't be a solve for this, as my phone and headphones worked just fine using iOS9

Same issue here as well using iphone6s... As well as shazam is not working as not receiving anything from the mic.

What i do is that with every call i have to put the loud speaker on then off to hear the other side. I am wondering how apple is releasing such a low quality software update.

Hi I have the same problem.   I am not using ear pod but normal wired headphone connected to my iPhone 6S.

    1.  there is no voice unless I pressed the speaker button on the phone pad.

    2.  no voice when 1st connected the headset to the iPhone,  need to unplug and plug the headset before music can be heard.

I only have this problem when after upgrade to 10.0.2.

I have the same incident, no solution, but a workaround which works like that:

    iPhone 6s with iOs 10.0.2

    1. Apple earphones are connected to iPhone 6s.

    2. Call comes in. I accept the call. The caller can´t hear me and I can´t hear the caller via the Apple earphones. That´s the incident!

    3. I press the speakerphone icon at the iphone once to activate the speakerphone and immediately after that I press the icon again to deactivate the speakerphone. Now, the earphones are working normal and I can use them for this call.

This is reproducable at every call.

    Bye

I have this problem as well after the update from 9.whate-ever-was-the-last-release strait to 10.0.2. iPhone 6S.

I will try the restore process and see if it rectifies the issue. As others have reported I mostly use my phone with a headset, in my case a pair of Denon AH-C120MA.
