What helps?
- Reconnecting the ear pods jack helps to enable sound when you are listening a PodCast.
- Double pressing loud audio button while incoming call.
Skype can't be fixed with anything. What is the most stupid thing, when you are listening a PodCast, no sound will be heard from the incoming call. So you have to double tap loud audio button. After the call, the PodCast will continue with no sound and you have to reconnect the jack.
So you can imagine how I am reconnecting the jacks while driving my car. I can't express Apple how angry I am on your buggy update. It made my iPhone 6s useless to me.

Oct 6, 2016 11:37 AM in response to Billy78GRby Billy78GR,I have also hearing problems with FaceTime. In fact you can't restore sound when the problem persists.

Oct 6, 2016 3:21 PM in response to Billy78GRby lorieg,I have an iPhone 7 with iOS10.0.2 and have this problem also.
I thought it was the lightening-3.5mm jack adapter, so started using the lightening equipped earpods.
That didn't help.
I am waiting for a solution. Interim workaround: bluetooth headset or speakerphone.

Oct 7, 2016 2:05 PM in response to Billy78GRby Sforsyth-1,I Have the same problem with iOS 10. In addition to a lot of weird behavior from my the phone after the upgrade, this is the worst. I use the phone with earbuds to conduct my business, and now the voice stream doesn't work through the ear buds and regular speaker. The only option is to quickly switch to speaker phone before the callear hangs up. It is really irritating when I call a customer and can't hear them. This is now a very expensive phone that doesn't work. If not resolved soon, would will have no alternative than to switch to an android. I can't believe that Apple let this bug through their QA. And I'm even more surprised that they haven't fixed it. This needs to be fixed NOW! I didn't buy and iPod, I though I bough an IPHONE!

Oct 10, 2016 12:19 AM in response to Billy78GRby dkalkanis,I have the same issue on an iPhone 6. 10.0.2 update has not solved the problem.
When I use EarPods, I frequently get a high-pitch hissing continuous sound which is almost deafening. The sound volume also on the ear speaker seems to have dropped quite a bit (around 50% I think), to the point that I cannot hear the caller when I am outside. This did not happen before iOS 10.

Oct 10, 2016 12:50 AM in response to dkalkanisby calabiyau007,4 times in a week!!! Very annoying.
I strongly suggest that any affected user fill this bugreport so that Apple can notice the magnitude of this problem. Unfortunately there are not apple engineers reading these threads
So here it is:
http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html
It is just a minute but for sure will increase chances to get it fixed soon.

Respect to the no-sound bug, it seems that calling through the earpods triggers it. At least is my case.
You should make several calls (around 10 in my case) and then maybe you will notice that suddenly there is no sound.
After this trigger, there is no sound in other apps as stated until reboot.
But if you don't use it as a hand free device to call, then probably it will never happen to you.
