Q: Clicks on links not reaching page

Since updating to 10.11.6, in order to reach a site, most times I have click to twice or even more times before I get through and even then sometimes I can NEVER get through! Even keyboard connects like Return don't work (I've tried different mice just in case and even different keyboards, same problem). Initially I thought it was the browser but every browser I've used I get the same thing. I can only assume it's another one of those Apple OS bugs that Apple NEVER admit to having. BTW, my main browser is Firefox 48.02.

I'm running a mid-2011 21.5" iMac with 16gigs of ram

iMac (21.5-inch Mid 2011), OS X El Capitan (10.11.6)

Restart in Safe Mode and then restart normally and test. To start in Safe Mode, hold down the Shift Key on startup until the computer fully boots up. Then restart normally and test.

El Capitan is very sound, it's not a bug but your computer may be having an issue. You also may want to see if there is an update to Firefox, if the issue is only happening with that browser I'd be more concerned about that then OS X.

Hmmmm... ok, I'll try that and it's the same no matter what browser but it doesn't happen with either my email or with my offline editor, Marsedit which communicates directly with my Websites. I have the latest Firefox/Safari.

Well, no change. You say it's stable but all I can say is that this problem only started after the last OS upgrade and if my experience with Apple and it's 'not the OS' is anything to go by, this is a problem with the OS.

What all 3rd party extentions are you running?

EtreCheck is a simple little app to display the important details of your system configuration and allow you to copy that information to the Clipboard. It is meant to be used with Apple Support Communities to help people help you with your Mac.

Do you mean for Firefox or for the OS?

Ran etrecheck and only one failure:

Why? It's been running ok forever but I'll try it. It think that something is interrupting my broadband connection, or at least slowing it right down to the point that connections time out.

First because it is 100% unnecessary and second is because it is likely the cause of your problems. OS X is extremely secure and runs best if simply kept up-to-date. Antivirus, cleaning or ANY other third party "maintenance" apps are unnecessary and in many cases cause more problems than they solve.

Ok, I think uninstalling Avast did the trick. It obviously collided with the latest OS upgrade as I've been running Avast for years without any problems.

    But thanks
