VPN using hotspot with ios 10 not working

I frequently work offsite and use my AT&T iPhone 6s to tether my Windows 10 Pro work tablet (ASUS Transformer T300CHI). Although a lot of the places I work have Wifi, most do not allow VPN which I need to connect to my work server. After the ios 10 update (I am on 10.0.1), I have not had issues tethering, but VPN no longer works.

The Windows 10 Pro built-in VPN on my tablet has an automatic configuration that appears to detect the type of configuration (IKEv2/PPTP/IPSec/L2TP, etc) and you just put in username and password. According to my IT dept, the VPN connection in the office not only supports PPTP (which I understand has been disabled with ios 10) but also supports IKEv2 and L2TP/IPSec. Regardless, I always left VPN setup on Windows 10 in Automatic. I have tried selecting the type of connection but this has not worked either. I typically get a "VPN tunnels failed" error

Any thoughts would be appreciated

i was had some problem,now it's solved but only if i using macbook. from windows i still crazy.

from another thread i found this and worked a treat for me

good luck

1. Plug in iPhone to laptop/PC

2. Turn on personal hotpot using USB only

3. Go to Settings on windows 10

4. Go to Devices

5. Go to connected devices

6. Right click iPhone and choose update driver software

7. choose second option Manually update driver

8. Browse

9. Select Netdriver folder and OK

11. Click next then close

12. Should connect

Still zero way to get it to work on a Mac even with a 2rd party tool like Shimo....if it's a driver issue then something between MacOS and iOS is still broken if this can be fixed on a Windows 10 Machine something needs to be done to fix it on MacOS. Maybe I will have to reach out to the Shimo folks.

try this, run on your mac terminal, run as sudo.

echo "plugin L2TP.ppp\nl2tpnoipsec" > /etc/ppp/options

its create a config l2tpnoipsec. but you must create L2TP VPN connection from your mac and absolutely your office router have to enable L2TP Protocol.

this worked better for me as your info gave me permission issues - even with Sudo.

IPsec works just fine, it's PPTP that doesn't work any more.

This actually helped me because of a NAT issue with my office router and L2TP With IPSec. It only allowed 1 person per Remote Location to be logged in at same time. (Didn't work for teams on the road working in a hotel)

Now without IPsec it's all working perfect.

And by turning off IPSec I can now also tether thru my iOS 10 device which is the topic of discussion here.

We are seeing this issue using Cisco AnyConnect on the Mac (El Captain) and iOS 10.0.1.

Also the previously configured AnyConnect VPN connection on the iPhone does not work.

From what I can see this is using DTLS.

My IT department is upgrading our VPN service. After reading about the PPTP protocol (wikipedia describes it as "obsolete") I was surprised we had not done something sooner.

Wonder if Apple even remembers the iconic commercial where they were the hero rescuing the world from the overlord PC? I would have liked the option to connect to legacy systems PPTP where needed.
