Q: How to Receive Emails for Questions I ask

Hello Everyone!

I checked my email account today and noticed that I am receiving a lot of emails.  I am only interested in receiving emails for questions that I am asking and I prefer to explore and search for other topics in the community online, rather than receive everything.  How do I alter my settings to receive responses to the questions that I am posting in this Community?

When you view a discussion, before leaving, click Follow, then recheck Following should stop that. You shouldn't have to do that if you didn't post in it, but it is something you can try.

If you are receiving emails for an entire Community, you probably selected the Follow button for that Community:

Click it again to de-select it.

You can also choose to "follow" a particular Discussion, and you will receive emails only for it. I think that's what you intended to do, not the entire Community.

Funny you should mention that John.  I selected a member of this community to follow and every response he posts to a discussion, I am receiving it.  Is there any way I can follow someone without receiving all his responses to various discussions?

You can click on that participant's name and bookmark that page, for example:

Does that accomplish what you seek?

Thank you very much for the helpful tips John.  I think I resolved the problem.  I stopped following the person and now, I am only receiving responses to the questions I am posting.  It's still strange to me that when I was following that person, I kept receiving all emails to posts that he was responding to.  I checked to see if I was following the community or thread and I was not.  Oh well!  Thanks again John!

That is the very definition of following a person = get notices of their posts

The "follow" terminology is vague in my opinion, but yes that's what it does on this site.

BTW, every 'term' is new at some time in its usage - we learn something new every day (or should)
