Yes, it does turn on the Lock/Unlock option after you install you self-locking cover. There has a been a lot of discussion about this and some people even stated that it did not work for them even after installing a cover, but I got my new third-party $12 cover today, installed it, and checked my settings under "display and brightness" and the new line of Lock/unlock showed up now. And the cover works perfectly to turn it off (some people report that their batteries are going dead after they close the cover and then discovered their cover was not actually turning off iPad. That's true. Some don't. I saw a youtube video of a guy that had two identical covers. One turned off the iPad, the other didn't. It was because the manufacturer put the magnet in wrong (wrong polarity facing out) in some of their pads... buyer beware.). BTW, my wife's new iPad 9.7 2017 model, same as mine, both brand new this week, both running the same iOS 11 version, her iPad showed the lock/unlock option right out of the box (after we started them and tweaked them to our tastes) and mine didn't. I assume it had something to do with the way we set each of ours up, disabling certain features, etc.
