How do I disable the Up Next playlist?

The Up Next playlist is a horrible idea that I can't stand. I would like to turn it off or better yet Apple developers can remove it from existence. I don't know how it decides what to add to it and don't really care. I just want it gone.

Anyone have a solution for me so I'm less frustrated by using iTunes?

By the way, ideally I would like the song right after the one I started playing to play. I think this was the way it used to work, but then some ******* changed it.
