Q: iPhone 6 suddenly reports critical battery and shuts off
It's been happening for about a month now, and updating to iOS10 hasn't helped.
It usually shuts off during activities known to have a big impact on the battery, including video, games, GPS. It doesn't shut down in error when just left idle or just playing audio through headphones. This phone does not feel hot when it shuts off.
Today I saw the battery change from 68% to 1% and shut off. Plugging it in and turning it on shows the battery level as 65%. It's been as high as 78% when I power it up.
Is this likely to be a faulty battery, a faulty sensor, or a known software bug?
I've reset the phone and restored from backup, but that didn't help. I've let the battery drain slowly and then fully charge it, and that didn't help. I see no issues when looking at the battery usage of the apps I'm running. Any advice about managing battery usage by disabling wifi/bluetooth/locations will be unhelpful.
I live in NZ, and there is no Apple Store here, just resellers and authorised agents, so I can't simply take it in to get Apple to look at it.
