Q: Selecting content from a clip in iMovie 10.1.2

I am using iMovie 10.1.2. I imported a 20-minute long video of a volleyball match. iMovie considers the whole movie a "clip". I need to pull smaller clips (content) from the longer movie for a highlight film. "Help" section says I can hold down the R key and drag to select content within the clip (20-minute movie), but this is not working. Please help!!

 

I used an older version of iMovie previously, and it allowed me to select content just by holding down the mouse button and dragging.

iMovie 10, OS X El Capitan (10.11.6)

The R key usage came with iMovie 10.1.2. In the browser place your cursor over where you want the selection to begin. Then hold down the R key and drag to complete the selection. You can also place the cursor over the start point of your desired selection and hit the i key. Then drag to where you want the selection to end and press the o key.

    I'm having the same issue. I can use the shorter clip, but when I go to export it, iMovie counts the whole thing.

    After you have selected part of a clip in an event you have to put it in a project timeline and export from there.  Exporting directly from an event pane will always export the whole clip.

    I think I've got it now. I went to the event, shortened the clip down and exported it. Then, I reimported the shortened clip and used that one.
