    In short, an XML file is a structured data file - in other words it stores data in a way that's easy for a computer to parse and read, but it's also easy(-ish) for a human to read, too.

     

    Typically XML can be used for preference or configuration data, or for data-interchange between applications, but there are a myriad of possibilities.

     

    This means that, as far as solving your problem is concerned, that's no help. The whole point of XML is that it's easy for any application to store whatever data it needs, so you'd need to be more specific about what application you're using, and what XML file it's looking for. Only then can someone (possibly) point you in the right direction.

    You have tried to open a Pages 5.x file with Pages '09.

     

    right click on the file and open it with Pages 5.x (the orange icon).
