Can't start an apple music account? Message - To use this feature, make sure Show Apple Music is selected in Preferences.

Trying to sign up for an apple music account. I went through and verified my student discount. When it opened back up in iTunes it says "To use this feature, make sure Show Apple Music is selected in Preferences."

When I go into preferences the box labeled "Show apple music features" is already checked. At a loss here...😕

Do it from iTunes directly on your computer. Plug in your iPhone to your computer.
Click iTunes Store, then find Manage Account, might need to scroll down all the way to the bottom of the page. Click manage account and then enter your password. Scroll down until you see Subscription (1) and click on manage. Select Student membership and follow the steps to verify with your student email. That should work.

If you are trying to avail the three months trial through the student membership then it seems to be a common issue. Here's how i solved it on my Mac

1. Start the three month trial as an individual rather than a student. You will see it will go through smoothly.

2. Now time to change your membership. Go to itunes -> account -> view my account.

3. Scroll down and you will see Subscriptions set as 1 under Settings. Click on Manage next to it. Then go to the options and verify yourself as a student.

4. Voila!
