Q: ios 10 Iphone won't connect to DHCP wifi

Upgraded IPhone 6 to IOS 10 and now the phone will not connect to my BT Home Hub 5.  All other devices will, even another phone which has IOS 10.

The Phone recognises the router password, puts a blue tick against the connection but no wifi signal appears and it stays on 3G/4G.

If I look at the DHCP information on the phone it is all blank which is wrong.

I've checked on the router and the phone is not showing as connected.

I've reset router etc.

I've reset the network connections on the phone, plus hard reboots etc.

I'm at a loss, please help!

The consequences of using "static" would be, that you  (= your router) will have to assign each device in your network a specific IP address, and each device has to be set to "static". If you have only a couple of devices as part of your network this should not be a problem. This setup will only work if all devices are set to "static", the moment  a device that is set to DHCP wants to join this network, you might get the error message about a network conflict because of a similar IP address.

Many thanks for this. It has worked for me on my Iphone 6 and I am now able to access the home wifi again. I used 192.168.1.150 for my static IP address.

    Hi,

I resolved my issue by resetting the BT home hub back to factory settings. It seems to be connecting fine now.

    Hope you've resolved yours too!

    I have the same problem.

Can not connect to wifi since ios 10 update.

i have 2 wifi networks at home.

before the ios 10 update everything worked fine.

Now my iphone 6 wont connect to wifi, because it doesnt accept the dhcp lease.

the only workaround is to insert the ip from the ip-range manualy incl. subnet and dns-server.

That is a hardcore ios bug.

I use a sophos wifi router and a fritz box.

same problem on both router and same solution.

    Hope that helps.

Had the same issue with an iPad Air. After Updating to iOS10.1 (and the problem persisted with iOS 10.02), wifi kept dropping. Eventually, I couldn't get it to reconnect at all. As with your problem, IP and DNS etc were all blank. Restored the iPad several times, tried manually entering DNS data etc.  - all to no avail. So I downgraded to 9.3.5 and the wifi is rock solid, as it was prior to installing iOS10.

My iPhone 6S Plus has had no such problems with wifi after updating to iOS 10. Every other device in my home works flawlessly with my router. Clearly an iOS 10 issue. I'm curious as to why my iPad Air was affected and not iPhone. What configuration of devices affected is triggering the bug?

    Hallo,

    Andreas

I have the same problem but I'm not going to just through hoops to get it work work. I tried BT Support but as usual they were completely clueless.

You'd have thought Apple and BT would have tested thing before launch, it's not as if either isn't a giant mega corp with bottomless resources...

To be honest I don't think it's an issue with BT.

It appears to be an issue with the iPhone 6 or iPad Air (and older) as they probably have a different Wireless chip to the 6S.

I would put this issue down to Apple especially as I've seen the same issues with other routers in various posts on the Internet.

What's even more annoying is I cannot get the static IP address working now so I have no wifi on my iPhone 6 again.

I have the same problem with my iphone 7 plus und the iPhone 6s plus. Both connect with WiFi but only one of them will go to Internet. Static IP in no solution. The Problem starts with connecting the iPhone 7 plus to Wi-Fi.

Thanks ickle, that's worked for me.

I also had to disable "BT Parental Controls" & "BT Web Protect", use your solution as posted, then reactivate the BT Software.

Evernote, which had kept on crashing following the IOS 10 update seems stable now.

Thanks again, I'd spent the whole day on this. I've also been able to cancel my visit to the apple store (Time saved)

    Hi,

is it right? You disable your BT Restriction's. Than you activate them again. And now you have Connection to your Internet? I try this, but it dont work.

    Hi Andreas

Before you do anything, I'd recommend taking screen shots of your existing settings before you make any changes.

This way you have a record of where you started in case it doesn't work and you need to go back.

    Desk Top

On my desk top, through the internet on the BT portal, I disabled the BT web protection settings but left the Firewall On.

    On my iPad......

    Screen Shot 2016-09-27 at 17.07.03.png

follow the instructions as detailed above in the picture.

Settings > Wifi > Select the advertised/ Required BT Router you want to log onto.

Change the setting from the top menu from DHCP to STATIC

Set a new IP address, say 192.168.1.6 as an example

adjust the Subnet Mask, Router, DNS, Search Domains - all as detailed above in the picture

    Desk Top

On my Desk top I opened the BT router menu settings and located my iPad and changed it to "Static"

I changed the IP address to match my iPad

    Internet

This allowed me to log onto the internet through my iPad

I then reactivated the BT web protection and changed my iPad back to again to DHCP in >Settings>Wi-Fi but kept the new assigned IP Address.

    Job done.

I hope this helps. This is not my area of expertise, not enjoyable and has left me unimpressed with both apple and BT having used their chat facilities without either being able to offer help or advice.

Evernote working well now, no longer crashing!

I've been having exactly the same problems after updating to ios10 on my iPhone6. I live in London and my ISP is British Telecom. I'm on a BT Hub6 and the Hub shows me connected to the iPhone AND the iPhone shows I am connected to the Hub (dual band router.) But the DHCP block on the iPhone refuses to populate.  So I used the 'static' fix and that results in an immediate working connection.

    What I don't understand:

    (a) Is this a BT Hub problem with IOS 10? (all our other IOS devices NOT on ios10 are fine).

    (b) Is this an IOS10 problem when connecting to a BT Hub?

    (c) Is this an iPhone 6 problem when on iOS10 and connecting to a BT Hub?

    (b) And how do we bring it to the attention of BT/Apple in order that they bring in a proper fix?

I had the same problem. After upgrading an iPhone 6 to iOS10 the phone and various other PCs etc in the house started having problems. They connected to WiFi OK but not to the internet. I had to work around it by assigning static IP addresses to everything as described by ickle1999 above.
