I have this exact same problem here in Australia on Telstra on my iPhone 5s. No Service or Searching... forever... Then I'll have great service then nothing again.

Went to Telstra and they gave me a sim replacement. No difference.

Went to Apple Store twice. First time did a complete restore to 10.0.2. No change.

Went again to another Apple Store and they tested the SIM on another device. Worked fine. Likely a HW issue, but both Apple Stores said the only avenue is to get a replacement phone for $296 USD ($390 AUD). The phone worked fine *until* I upgraded to 10.0.1...then updated to 10.0.2 hoping it would resolve the issue. Nope. Nope.

Sorry to say that I'm glad I'm not the only one having this issue.

    Hope Apple is seeing this!!!

Thank you!! I have tried everything to get my cell service back and this worked!!  I don't understand how Apple hasn't yet addressed this problem. At first I thought it was just an iPhone 5 problem and maybe I would have to upgrade my phone. A lot of people had other phones, so I thought it was a carrier problem, but then other carriers were having the same issue. Apple, please send an update for this issue!!

I observe the similar problem. Mine is iPhone 5S. After downloading IOS 10.0.2 it worked 3-4 days smoothly without any problem, but one day I saw network disappearing. Sometimes network line drops to one and again up to five. After resetting my telephone to default factory, network lines drop to 1 and up to 5, but NO SERVICE was shown for only 2 seconds and again there was 1 and 5 network lines. Now I suffer from a failure of network. Even if I have a good network coverage I can't receive a message and call. When it will be eliminated?

I'm having the same problems in the Netherlands. KPN provider. My wives I phone 6 is working fine with our provider and no update and mine is some times working and then looking for services again. Have tried all proposed solutions but to no avail. Hope that Apple solves the problem because I'm pretty sure it is not a hardware problem if so many are already complaining.

    SO APPLE HELP US!!!!

I have this same problem; T-mobile already acknowledged the issue.... wondering when A&TT will do something about it... For me, if i toggle airplane mode for a few seconds it fixes the service issue but that is by no means a solution.

I bought into apple for the ease of use and not to troubleshoot issues; if I wanted that, I would have gone andriod.

I swapped two sim cards KPN to Vodaphone.

Between a iPhone 6s and 5s. In the 5s both sim keep asking for service and in the 6 they both work. Both have version  ios 10.0.2.

But stranger still during a reboot (holding start and apple button) the screen turns blue and then the apple logo appears. It does not help anything for the mobile service connectivity. Still not working. Any one else who has a blue screen when rebooting.

Turning off roaming, even briefly, fixed this problem in my iPhone 5s and also for some other posters (see Sept 30 posts).

I think the new software has a bug in whatever section latches onto the designated carrier when other, maybe stronger signals are present from other carriers.  The phones should ignore other carriers and connect to your service provider (Verizon, Sprint, whoever) when your carrier is present.  When your carrier is not strong enough, then it should attach to another carrier (ie ROAM).

It smells to me like the software is set up for my carrier (Verizon) but then trying to connect to another stronger signal (maybe AT&T or Sprint).  There is some software "handshake" to make the connection.  My phone seems to be holding out its Verizon hand but is connecting to an AT&T hand - and they don't match up so verification and no service.

Turning off roaming forces the phone to only connect to Verizon (my carrier) if it can.  Once it does that, it seems to change a stored value and as long as Verizon is around, I stay connected even with roaming turned on.  I had to repeat this process once so far in ~20 days to reset the link after maybe losing Verizon coverage.

    Good luck, hope this helps!
