Q: iPhone 7 - Keeps Freezing!!!

I have just taken on the iPhone 7. I have noticed a couple of issues:

1) Freezing: When I open, contacts or whats app... it just stays on that screen. The lock button, or home button does not work. This will last for about 1.5 minutes!!!! Then the phone will be ok, but may take a few pictures ... this is maybe me pressing the lock and home button together

2) Camera - a lot of the times when I open the camera, I get just a black screen where the camera is, then after a couple of seconds my camera comes on....

Has any one else had these issues, and any help with it? I presume its an ios issue rather than a phone issue?

I shared my experience on my blog. The short answer is that Apple replaced the phone.

Same issue with my iPhone 7, and my daughters' phones (all iPhone 7).  It usually freezes for 30-60secs, but I have had it freeze on me for 5+min.

I am having similar problems with iphone 7+ locking up......VERY frustrating.  First noticed problems when I installed IOS 10 on old iphone 6s+  when IOS 10 first came out.  Had new iphone 7+ on order so thought the issue would resolve with new phone.  That did not happen.  Thought the issue would resolve with IOS 10 update.  I have IOS 10.0.2 now and am still having the issue.  Phone locks up and becomes unresponsive when using.  Often occurs in messages app, but also with other apps.  This is happening dozens of times a day.  That the problem persists through 2 different phones tells me it is software not hardware.  The only thing I can think to do is to go back to IOS 9, because I don't want to lose all my apps and data.  Not sure what to do.  Please fix IOS 10 Apple!

Happening to me too. Very disappointing for a near $1000.00 phone. POOR ENGINEERING. If it's happening to all of us, uh, that tells me they knew about it before release. I used to work in electronics and these things have to go through multiple testing processes.

Apple just wants our money for a poor product.

I Don't think this is some kind of massive conspiracy... Things happen in life and things break. 8 doubt Apple would risk their well known reputation for attent to detail just to rush a bunch of phones out that they know will come back. This sounds like a Donald Trump way of thinking lol

You're obviously an oblivious financial fool that doesn't understand the value of hard earned money, paying for quality product, and expecting good customer service from a monopolist organization like Apple, who should offer a dependable product to their hard-working customers. Bringing up politics makes you a blundered fool additionally.

I contacted Apple support about this issue and this is their response

"When issues come up apple does track them using these case notes, this is the first time I have had any chats about this issue, so it’s not a trending issue, that means a small number of people are experiencing this, if we see a large number of people experiencing this same issues our engineers work to correct this."

You were straight up lied to... lol they are very well aware of it. I called them last week and was on phone over an HR with 3 diff technicians... only had the phone a week and I raised **** that I was already needing to restore to factory settings and re-set my **** phone up and that was "just to see" if it quit freezing... I didn't go down quietly. I don't see how they can't have the phone logs sent to them (like they have before)... wouldn't that show all the phones processes and each "freeze" causing event?! They know how widespread this is.. make no mistake lol They aren't waiting on nothing from us..,

Apple is a company that has monopolized smart phones, locking us into almost forcing us to buy these phones For not $200 or $75 but nearly $1000. I find it extremely irritating and disappointing that my entire family has had to go to the "genius counter quote to fix issues with their MacBooks and no iPhone sevens because they're freezing.  Even when I had my iPhone 6 Plus the camera software went and all my pictures are blurry… But as I do not use the camera very much it's not a priority of mine nor do I use social media, but that is a major inconvenience and I'm a very busy professional so I don't have time to go to the "genius counter quote to fix these issues. But in this Particular situation of freezing they better come up with a plan to fix the issue Of which I'm going to have to take time out of my day and wait in line for their miss calculation of their engineering team.

I should've gone with my first instinct with Blackberry Passport, but it's not compatible with my iMac so I'm forced to get a phone that can link up with my computer. What a sham.

So has anyone come up with a resolution for restarting the phone properly?

I seem to have to wait until it's done freezing up… The fingerprint button doesn't work the power off button doesn't work it just won't shut off at all it just stays locked up

You can force the iPhone to restart by holding the power button and the volume down button at the same time. Keep holding until the phone restarts.

My experience with Apple is that they won't acknowldge the problem but they will fix it eventually. Unless a problem is headline news they will pretend it doesn't exist. Then one day a sofware fix will come. They like to pretend they are perfect . Apple still has the best tech support in my opinion.

I agree dhedc, these phones are like the creme de la creme, but come on… My family have all had iPhone 7 since September 16 and their phones are already freezing up all three… They must have known about this before they released it. Which forces us all to go to the "genius counter "wait in line to have our phones re-flashed.

with of course come on you all know with irritated people standing in line… It's a pain in the neck and a serious inconvenience. One would expect more from a company like Apple. It's like every single product (MacBooks, iPads, iPhones) that come out we are forced to go to the "genius desk" to have the problem fixed. I really hope they change their philosophy. Because another phone company is bound to surface to outdo and bankrupt them. Apple is not invincible.
