Q: itunes will not start in windows 8

I attached my new iPhone 7 to my PC / iTunes and was asked to update to IOS 10.01. I started the process and came back an hour later. iTunes was stuck and there was a firewire and iTunes icon on my iPhone 7. Now nothing is working. iPhone 7 not working and iTunes will not start on my PC / Windows 8. What to do?
