My iphone updated to ios 10.0.1 without my knowledge or consent

When i realized that ios 10.0.1 was released, i went into my settings to check for a software updated. When i checked, it told me i had the latest software: ios 10.0.1. I never was prompted to install the update, so it wasn't as if i chose to have it update in the middle of the night. I'm not sure when it happened, i just know that now i have the update. Is this a bug or something?
