keep in mind if you do not already own 10.11 in your account it may no longer be available for download from Apple once 10.12 becomes public.

To the contrary I think it very likely 10.11 will be around. Since 10.12 will drop a series of computers from its support list Apple's past behavior is to retain the last in a line of supporting software for download by people who get older computers but need to install the last supported version of OSX on them. If Apple were to drop 10.11 a significant line of computers would be frozen into older OSX versions. What is more critical, those older OSX versions would not support the newest iTunes version which practically requires 10.11 or higher and that would harm sales both of newer iOS devices as well as iTunes Store purchases. Apple did pull OSX 10.9 and 10.10 but the machine hardware requirements for 10.11 were pretty much the same as for 10.9 and 10.10 and in theory anybody who has a computer that can be upgraded past 10.8 can install 10.11.

Sep 20, 2016 10:18 AM in response to Daf923by Eric Root,I checked the App Store about 10 minutes ago and the ability to download El Capitan is gone. There is no option to download any OS, so it appears the App Store is being updated. Check back later.
