Problems with a HP Printer

I just bought a HP printer Deskjet Ink Advantage 4535 and it is only compatible with OS X v10.8 Mountain Lion and I am using Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5 (11G63b). How can I update my OS without losing my other applications.

MacBook Pro, iOS 10

Check to make sure your applications are compatible.

Do a backup before installing, preferable 2 backups on 2 different drives.
