How do I add a map page in photo books that will show destinations with arrows just like iPhotos used to do?

In iPhotos, you can create a book page that showed maps with destinations of your trip. The kids loved it as they can now see how far they traveled. This functionality does not seem to be transported over to the updated Photos App. Can anyone explain why?

You are right. The book templates in Photos are much more limited, because it is impossible to resize the photo place holders or the text boxes.

The map item with iPhotos never caused me a problem and was a great feature.

You have been lucky. There has been at least one map theme, that caused iPhoto to crash, as soon as an arrow has been added to the map page. And once this map had been added, the complete book project had to be deleted to save the library. But nevertheless, I am missing the ease to create places labels and routes on a map too. You may want to send feedback to Apple with a feature request. If enough users are requesting this, it might added with a future update: Apple - Photos - Feedback

You can add a map with places markers, but arrows like in iPhoto or Aperture are not available, perhaps because the pages with arrows caused constant crashes in iPhoto, who knows.

As a work-around: You could create a map page with the location markers and print the page to PDF, then draw the arrows in Preview onto the map and import the map page to Photos as a photo. Add this photo to the book to full-page photo.

Whats interesting is that upon creating a map label, you have to manually drag it to where you want it. In other words, if I put in Cancun Mexico, it does not automatically place that destination correctly on the map in the country of Mexico. You have to manually drag it to Mexico and place it. Very strange. Thank you for your help.

Having to place the markers manually is a pain. If you want to use a map layout with photo place holders, use first a normal page with three photos, add the photos, and only then change the layout to the map.

The locations of the three photos should appear as pins on the map.
