Q: iMac will not shut down, Finder issue!

2011 iMac running El Capitan...works absolutely fine until i want to shut down!...go to apple drop down menu, click on shut down, the finder menu bar at the top disappears from the screen and that's it, it stops like that with my background and dock still visible, have to shut down at main power button.

It seems to be a Finder problem...finder works fine till i click on shut down...then finder is shown as not responding and will not relaunch!

Any ideas how to fix this...looking to update to Sierra this evening!

I've seen this in many versions of OSX, it's usually due to some 3rd party thing...

What all 3rd party extentions are you running?

Thanks for this, however i updated to Sierra that evening and so far it seems to have solved this problem for me...four times i have gone through the shut down process and every time it has shut down properly with no problems...hopefully  updating to Sierra solved the problem for good but if the problem returns i will come back and update this thread.

    Thanks
