I have suddenly noticed a spinning double-arrow icon at the top of my iPhone 6s screen; it is right next to the location services icon. With this icon there, my battery is draining faster than I can keep up with it; it was down to 44% after only two hours, with minimal or no use at all.

I have turned of all background refresh options for every app; I have checked that there is no backup happening in iCloud (that was done overnight while I charged the phone, anyway), I have done a two-button reset/restart, I have tested it with Airplane mode turned on (the arrows kept going), I have signed out/in of iCloud, and I have called AppleCare with no solution at this time. The issue has been sent to the engineers, according to the person I was talking to, but in the meantime I can't use my phone as usual for fear of it simply running out of battery right away.

Has anyone ever seen this happen? Is there a solution?

I do have wifi sync set up, and that's how the iCloud backup from last night's charge was happening. My iPhone says it backed up to iCloud at 9:03PM. Interestingly, I've just noticed that iTunes says it's *never* been backed up to iCloud. Seeing that, I plugged in (almost no battery left, anyway) and told iCloud to back up via iTunes. The backup said it finished, but the backup actually went to my iMac instead of iCloud, and it still says it's never been backed up to iCloud. That's strange, since this 6s isn't new, and I've backed up almost every night to iCloud with no problems before now.
