Thanks for posting in the Apple Support Community! I understand you're having trouble with updating Safari on your iMac. I use Safari daily so I can understand wanting to make sure it's working.
If your Safari update is still stuck, I recommend to try safe mode. You can restart in safe mode and then try your update again to see if it goes through. There may be an incompatible log in item that's preventing your update from going through.
Try safe mode if your Mac doesn't finish starting up
You can also try creating a test user and update Safari in the test user to see if the update goes through. This will help determine if there are any issues with third party software or a user specific issue causing your update to stall.
