Suddenly SIRI not listening

Installed the gold master version of Sierra several days ago. SIRI has been working just fine. This morning not. Invoking SIRI brings the SIRI dialog box on but the activity line stays absolutely straight when I speak. Sound is set at internal mic and the system pref panel hears me just fine. Have tried restarting the Mac, turning SIRI off then on from prefs; no love. Any suggestions as what to next are welcome.

I had a similar issue. Below are the steps that solved it for me. More info at Re: Siri not working on Sierra.

Siri appears to be working now. Here's what I did...

  1. I unplugged my OWC dock from my MacBook, and unplugged all accessory cables from my OWC dock.
  2. I then plugged in my OWC dock to my MacBook (no accessories plugged into OWC dock).

    Siri worked.

  3. I then proceeded to plug each accessory into the OWC dock, and tested Siri after each step.

Siri would stop working after plugging in a certain accessory.

  4. Each time Siri stopped working I started over (back to step 1).
  5. After the third time (or so) of Siri not working after a certain point, I turned Siri off and on again via System Preferences.

After doing this, Siri has now been working consistently.

I don't know if the key was unplugging/plugging in the dock/accessories, or if the solution was turning Siri on/off (I had previously tried turning Siri on/off but it didn't fix it).

I've shut-down and restarted several times now and Siri continues to work without any interaction from me.

Good clue! I disabled Siri, unplugged my Elgato Thunderbolt dock and restarted the iMac. I then enabled Siri and, voilá, Siri is now working. The strange thing: No accessories plugged in to the dock. But it is capable of accepting a standard single jack from headphones, so the associated driver for that piece could be the culprit. I will keep an eye on Elgato's help section for an update of the driver for this particular dock. Thank you.

Glad that helped!

Seems strange to me that the Mac continues to "remember" this after each re-boot. I would think turning Siri off/on after every start-up would be required to keep Siri working correctly. I guess doing this initiates the permanent "connection" between the Elgato driver and Mac OS - which is probably the step being missed for the Mac OS to take care of it on it's own.
