Epson Printer Custom Paper size issue

Hi there--I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction for a solution to the following:

When I set up a custom paper size for my Epson printer, it doesn't allow me to select that size when printing. It's in the list but grayed out, regardless of what application I'm printing from. I have the latest version of the driver.

Printer: Epson Stylus Photo 1200, ca. 2000. (an oldie but goodie)

Custom paper sizes isn't supported in Panther. At least that is my recollection.

Figgers... It is a dinosaur printer, but works still just fine. Kinda slow, but color calibrated to my monitor, and does the larger format, which I need. Guess I'll have to buy size Super B, which is like, 12.934x19.345 or something, probably converted from centimeters.

Hi Dina!

Using OS 10.3.9, I have the ability to create and use a Custom Paper Size.

Where and how are you setting the custom paper size?

Hi Ali,

First, I'm printing from InDesign CS2. I haven't tried from other apps.

When I go into the print dialog box and click on the printer or print setup buttons, although I can create a custom page size, it is greyed out in the pop-down menu.

Did I say that the printer is an Epson Stylus Photo 1200? The latest driver from Epson, which is what I have installed, is a couple years old.

Dina,

I'm not sure it matters what printer you are using.

I don't have InDesign CS2 to test with, but in any of my apps, this is the procedure I use.

Select Page Setup ( Shift + Command + P keys).
From Settings: choose Custom Paper Size.
Click New.
Type a title where it says Untitled.
Insert the Paper Size & Printer Margins adjustments.
Click Save.
Click OK.

Select Page Setup ( Shift + Command + P keys), again.
At Paper Size select the New Custom Size, which appears at the bottom of the list beneath a Seperator Bar.
Click OK.

Select Print ( Command + P keys).
Select the settings there and click Print.

Is that what you are doing?

Basically. InDesign has the page setup as a button inside the print dialog box rather than a separate menu item.

I've tried it again, just to be sure.

Although I can create the custom paper size, it doesn't allow me to choose it, nor does it come up in the list. It shows only as Custom, greyed out. If I choose the Determined by Driver option, there's a little thumbnail of how the document will be positioned on the page, which changes when you change the page size.

I also tried it in Word, with no luck at all. I placed a large picture on a page in Word and sized it at 100%. When I go into the page setup box to create the custom size, I can create the custom paper size, but it doesn't change what the document looks like on my screen. The image is still off the page.

HOwever, if I choose a page size that's in the list, the layout of the word doc changes with it.

I think I'm going to post something about this on the Adobe site too, see if anyone has any info. If I recall correctly, I couldn't get this to work in OS9 either.

Maybe I should delete the preferences file or something for the printer?

Also, I wasn't clear earlier. When little thumbnail in the Adobe print dialog box changes when you select different paper sizes. In the case of choosing Determined by driver, it didn't change at all...
