Q: how to install Android Studio to iMac

Hi,

I am installing Android Studio 2.2.0 to my iMac (mid 2011, 8 GB RAM), running OS X El Capitan.

I have installed the Java 8 JDK: harddrive> Library> Java> JavaVirtualMachines> jdk1.8.0_101.jdk

I have downloaded the DMG file from the developer.android.com site and installed the AndroidStudio app (814 MB) file to the Applications folder.

However, when I launch the app, the Android Studio banner shows on center screen but the Setup Wizard does not come up, it seems stuck. I am new to the iMac/Mac so I am not sure if I have some general setting set that is causing this or not.

I am going to soon upgrade the RAM to the full 16GB that is allowed for this iMac.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

iMac, iOS 10, running El Capitan

    Hello kahu2u,

Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

I see that you are trying to install Android Studio on your iMac. I found the following page on the Android Studio site that describes the install process and also provides a video of the process. Take a look and make sure you aren't missing anything and they may provide additional help for you there if you still have difficulties.

    Install Android Studio

    Best regards.

    Hi chris_g1,

Thanks for your reply! Yes, I followed that page when I first installed Android Studio but was experiencing the problem that I described. I then took a good look at my hard drive and felt that I had a lot of junk on there that might be interfering with the installation process once I launched the app.

I decided to scrub my disk with disk utility and restarted with a clean new disk. I then re-installed the Java 8 idk and then downloaded Android Studio again and it installed and launched fine.

    Thanks again for your input!

    Regards.
