move pictures from iphone 4 to MacBook Air

I want to get a new iPhone and want to move all my pictures onto my new MacBook Air FIRST

current phone - iPhone 4 IOS 6.1.3 (10B329)

pictures - 2247

video - 246

Songs on the phone 37 (have music on my iPad Air 9.3.5 (13G36) that I would like on the MacAir too)

MacBook Air - OC X El Capitan 10.11.6

I have never added phone pictures to iPad because I didn't want to take up that much space but I want to move

them to the computer

Plug your phone into your Mac, and then you can use the Image Capture application on your Mac to import all of your photos.

Will that copy or move pictures? I have never used Image Capture. i have always had a PC so this Mac is giving me a bit of a learning curve. Makes me realize how easy the iPad is to use!

It will copy the photos. It also gives you the option to delete the photos which will delete them from your phone. I understand that, though! It'll take some time to get used to it!
