Q: iMovie crashes after Sierra update

This may simply be a bug, and you may have to wait for an update before it is fixed. What you can try is a clean reinstall of MacOS Sierra.

You might try these commonly used diagnostic procedures to see if you can isolate the problem:

1. Delete preferences by restarting your computer, and launching iMovie while holding down the option and command keys.  Then select the delete preferences option in the resulting dialogue box.

  2.  Try launching iMovie in a different user account.  You can use your guest account for this purpose.

   3. Try creating a new project and copy/pasting into it the media from your current project, or, better yet, totally new    media.

I would also update iMovie to version 10.1.2 (the latest).

Interesting, it was only a guess on my part.   This suggests that Sierra may require imovie 10.1.2 or later.  There wilI soon be a lot of posts if this is the case!   (I won't be updating for several weeks).

I have this problem after updating to Sierra, too. I'm already using the latest version of iMovie. I did the three things mentioned in Rich's post, but none of them helped. I can create a new movie, but whenever I try to share it iMovie crashes.

Having the exact same problem.  Using the latest version and its still crashing.  Did a fresh install of iMovie and still crashing

Do the steps in Rich's post if you haven't already. If you have and the problem still exists then create a new library and see if it works ok.

Tried that, still no go.  Just crashes

I still got the iMovie crash not working on my account. But it is working the Guest account iMovie is working. It seems that my iMovie is trying the backing up and then it crashed and quit itself. I have tried deleting the imovie plist. However, I go no luck.

Hopefully, Apple can fix this problem asap.

I have just solved the problem. I have uninstalled the iMovie. And I downloaded it again from the App Store.

It works like charm. Probably, it is not the best approach, but it works for me.

For the people who will try this, "Uninstall" was not just moving the app to Trash, but I needed to erase all related files located in Library and so on. I used AppDelete.app to uninstall the app.

Yes, you are correct.

I forgot to mention that I was using "Clean My Mac" 's uninstaller to remove the iMovie.
