Q: Symantec VIP Access won't run macOS Sierra

Find an update for VIP Access.

If you get a message that it cannot be used, as opposed to just crashing or running flakey, it is pretty well established that the version you have installed does not work with Sierra.

What version of VIP access are you using?  The latest version is 1.0.3, and was released in 2014.

Yes, I'm using 1.0.3 and have the same issue.

as barney pointed out there have been no updates since 2014.
Apple provides the OS to developers months in advance for them to make the necessary changes to their software for compatibility. Its up to these developers to either make those changes, make a new product that is compatible or do nothing. Check with Symantec support as Apple does not make software changes to their products to accommodate other developers software.

Not so Jimmy. I contacted Symantec and this is their official reply

'Our developers are working hard to get our VIP
application for the new macOS Sierra ready for deployment. As you well know,
Apple sets very aggressive development release schedules with the latest
developer beta having been released less than two weeks ago. Our software goes
through arduous development and testing phases to ensure that it functions
fully for the full spectrum of uses that it is intended for.

Releasing the new VIP application for macOS Sierra is at the top of our
developer teams priority and you should expect to see it soon.

Please let us know if you have any further
questions or concerns.'

Thats just another good reason to stop using junk software from Symantec.

Not really.  VIP access is a great way to generate the key code for VPN access on the local computer.  And, I'm glad that they are doing a thorough job of testing prior to releasing it.

I, at least, have an alternate way of generating the key code using my iPhone that is supported by my company.  So this won't impact me much at all.  Maybe others who are running into this can get an alternate way to generate the key code also.

just because that is the Symantec reply doesn't make it the answer. The VIP access app still doesn't work. until it is able to work and until someone has a solution to make it, the question isn't solved.

Does Apple set a very aggressive development release schedule? Yes.

Was the latest developer beta less than two week ago? Yes.

But when was the first developer beta? June.

I, and many other developers, were able to make necessary changes and release new software that was compatible with Sierra. Most of us don't have revenues of 3.6 billion dollars, but we get it done anyway.

i got the same problem, which made my hair greyer, since i am very dependent on VIP Access for my work.

At present there is no real fix from Symantec, but ...

You can download the iPhone version of VIP Access - it is still supported for iOS 10. So, for the time being you can use your phone to generate the codes.

So, okay we had months to do this and sure, Apple made Sierra available to us back in spring of 2016 but instead of trying to be competent we screwed around, got in over our heads, lacked competent Apple developers and have nothing to show for it. As a result we blame Apple for making an OS with securities already built into it that don't work with our incompatible framework, and employees burning up vacation time and burning a lot at 4:20 if you catch our drift! But look, here's the thing, our software model was entirely designed to accoimdate Microsoft Windows and it wont ever work right on Mac, should that deter you from installing it? Should the fact our software has been documented as causing instability, crashes to desktop and kernel panics on Mac OS prevent you from buying, subscribing or otherwise paying for software you not only dont need but will cause interoperability issues? Nah!

So buck up little camper! We'll get that square peg into the round hole together!

The latest version of Symantec VIP Access can be downloaded from here. I tried it myself - working perfectly fine.
