Unlocking Mac Pro with Apple Watch

I just downloaded the new Sierra operating system and have the newest OS on my watch and iPhone. I have been trying to set up to where I can unlock my Mac with my Watch but can't seem to figure it out. Everything that I've read has said that I need to check the box that says Allow your Apple Watch to unlock your Mac. under security and privacy under general. Only problem is I can't find any such thing anywhere... Any suggestions would be great.

You're supposed to open up System Preferences (on your MacBook), go to Security & Privacy, and then check the box that says "Allow your Apple Watch to unlock your Mac". And this didn't work for you?

Is your Apple Watch under the same Apple ID as your MacBook? If not, that's why it's not working. Otherwise... I really don't know.

Make sure you've enable two-factor authentication for your Apple ID. I did a little digging and found out that's a requirement for it to work.

To do this on your MacBook:

Open system preferences > click on iCloud > click on Account Details > click on the Security tab > click the option to turn on Two-Factor Authentication, and provide any information that is asked for.

After you've done this, try going to Security & Privacy again and see if it works this time.

I have had the same problem repeatedly...with a Watch 2 and a Macbook Pro early 2015.

It was recently resolved by turning Bluetooth off and on...another more recent time, it was resolved with help from an Apple Support person who went through my MacBook Pro and checked ALL settings were right plus all were right on the Watch 2 too.

After logging out of my iCloud account on my MacBook Pro, then logging back in (plus restarting my MacBook Pro), my Watch 2 started unlocking my MacBook Pro again.

Two days later, though, Unlocking failure happened again.

I am going through more typing to unlock my MacBook Pro WITH the Apple Watch 2 than I would be without it....epic fail :-/
