Q: This version of macOS 10.12 cannot be installed on this computer.

What does this mean? I try to download from the App store and I get a popup saying "This version of macOS 10.12 cannot be installed on this computer."  I click on "Learn More" and nothing happens.  I just recently upgraded to El Capitan without issue.  I'm currently running a mid 2007 24" iMac that works as good as the day I bought it! Help!

    Thanks - that was not easy to find! I've had this guy for 9 years. . .i'd hate to get rid of it now.

    There is nothing wrong with El Capitan. It's likely to be supported by Apple for at least another couple of years, maybe more.

     

    The only reason to retire a perfectly functioning Mac is when it no longer does what you need it to do, and probably for things that were never even envisioned when it was built. That is not likely to occur for a long time.

     

    Remember the iPhone didn't arrive until the middle of 2007 (and many titans of the tech industry forecast it would be a market failure).

    As long as you don't have any burning desire for the added features

    in Sierra, there is no real need to update from El Capitan.  As others

    have said, it will be supported with security updates for quite some

    time.

     

    The only issue may be if you want an app or want to upgrade an app

    and it requires Sierra, then it may be time to move on.

     

    As hard as it may be, a nine year old computer is considered nearly ancient

    in terms of technology advancements.

    Ancient maybe, but fully functional, very adequate for my needs, and better than all the other PC's I have owned in my life rolled into one. I was sad to read this. It kind of makes me feel like I am no longer important. I have always felt special as the iMac (early 08) has always been upgraded, such a step up from the world of MS.
