ios 10 camera bug

Since upgrading my 5s to ios 10, my camera has stopped working.

The phone says the flash will not work until the device cools down. It isn't even hot to the touch.

The camera is completely black for both front and back cameras.

The flash will not turn on.

I have reset the phone and even did a factory reset and erased everything and it still won't work.

I have also tried opening it from the lock screen but I still have the same problem.

Having the same issue. Apple store said it was a hardware problem and that they couldn't fix the flash, but they could replace the camera. Waited 2 hours while they replaced the camera—only to come back and have them say that it hadn't worked, so maybe a software issue after all. Only options are to try factory reset to new, or to restore/upgrade the whole phone at a cost of $250 or more. 😠

Holding off to see if there are any developments, but this is so annoying.

I'm having the same issue immediately after installing 10.2.1on my iPhone 6+ I've tried everything...

Camera app shows black screen for all front facing camera modes. Video and slo-mo both work and occasionally when you swipe back to camera it will let you take a picture but not always. the camera does work with some 3rd party apps like facebook, afterlight, hyperlapse etc (not instagram though) it also does work when you take a picture from iMessage. This is super frustrating and I'm clearly not the only one.

I have:

Accessed the camera through swipe up menu.

Force quit the camera.

Restarted the phone.

Reset all settings.

Done a complete backup and restore. (apparently this does not effect firmware anymore)

If anyone has a solution I'm all ears.

Hi I had this same problem (iPhone 5 64Gb iOS 10.2.1) and fixed it by a stroke of pure chance.

Try the following, Go into:

1. Settings > General > Accessibility > LED flash for Alerts >

2. Toggle both settings (LED Flash for alerts and Flash on Silent) to on

3. Return to home screen.

4. Swipe up control centre and try the flash light - it should work.

5. Return to home screen

6. Open Camera app. Both rear facing camera and flash should NOT work.

7. Go back to: Settings > General > Accessibility > LED flash for Alerts >

8. Toggle both settings (LED Flash for alerts and Flash on Silent) to off

9. Return to home screen

10. Force close Camera app

11. Hard reset (Press and hold home button and power button simultaneously until phone resets)

12. Open camera app. Both rear facing flash camera and flash should now work.

Please let me know if this works for you!

Good Luck,

The simple solution that worked for me is to open the camera app, then hold the home button and the power button at the same time until you see the apple logo, then let go or it will reset your phone! now enter password and then open the camera app, it should be fixed, if it isn't fixed go to video then back to camera 10 times, if that doesn't work then force restart it again by holding the home button and power button simultaneously (volume down and power iPhone 7/iPhone 7 plus) until you see the apple logo. now let go of both the power and home button or the volume down and power button iPhone 7

It should be fixed, if not call apple support

THIS WORKED ON IOS 10.3.2 DEVELOPER BETA AND IOS 10.2.1

IF THIS WORKS REPLY WITH YOUR IOS VERSION NUMBER AND I WILL ADD IT TO THE LIST ABOVE

😠
I couldn't afford a new phone and it didn't seem like factory reset worked for anyone else on here, so I just dealt without the camera for a few months. Then I tried to plug the phone into my computer with an old, failing charger cable and received an error that said "this accessory isn't recognized"—but then immediately the camera and flash started working again. It was really strange.

Has the screen been replaced by Apple or an Apple Authorized Service Provider?

There have been reports that 3rd party replacement parts can cause these symptoms, especially the message about the phone needing to cool down and the camera / flash not working.

The firmware on the phone might also check the built in parts to be genuine, which can also lead to those issues, if non Apple hardware is being detected.
